Supporting Arbitral Parents: Reflections from the Latest ArbitralWomen Parental Mentorship Programme Webinar Featuring Board Director Clea Bigelow Nuttall
On 4 February 2026, ArbitralWomen’s Parental Mentorship Programme hosted its latest online session, featuring ArbitralWomen Board Director Clea Bigelow Nuttall as the invited speaker for a candid and practical discussion on “Time Management and Self‑Care for Arbitration Parents.” Organised by ArbitralWomen Board Directors and Parental Mentorship Committee Co-Directors Kate Corby and Dilber Devitre, the session brought together ArbitralWomen Members navigating the realities of balancing demanding arbitration careers with the equally demanding work of parenting.
Drawing on her own experience as a parent of two young children, Clea reframed the struggles of time management not as a personal failing but as a structural challenge inherent in both arbitration and parenting. She shared strategies such as designing a “predictable core” to anchor the week, developing boundaries that support both professional and family life, and embracing micro‑productivity to make use of the small margins in a busy day. Her reflections emphasised that there is no single model for success, only the importance of intentional choices that serve one’s values, wellbeing, and family context.
The session also explored self‑care as capacity‑building rather than indulgence, with Clea offering practical daily “minimums,” quiet‑time rituals, and the importance of reconnecting with the parts of ourselves that existed before parenthood. Participants engaged in an open and supportive discussion under Chatham House Rules, sharing their own experiences and challenges. The session closed with a reminder that integrating our professional and parental identities—without guilt—is both possible and empowering.
The AW Parental Mentorship Programme provides a supportive community for members to share their experiences, concerns, and strategies for managing both professional and parental responsibilities. For more information on the Programme and how to take part, please reach out here.
