This program examines the complex question of who has legal authority to settle litigation on behalf of government entities. The panel explores the division of settlement authority between legislative and executive branches, the role of attorneys general and city/county attorneys, insurance carrier involvement and indemnification issues, statutory limitations on settlement authority, required approvals and public notice requirements, and practical strategies for navigating multi-party approval processes in
government settlements.
