Young Arbitration Lunchtime Roundtable

Topic 1: Career strategies for arbitration practitioners in Australia Commonly, Australian practitioners seeking arbitration careers will break into this area by working overseas in arbitration hubs. The transition back to the Australian market is challenging, with many practitioners moving into broader disputes roles or going back overseas if they wish to specifically pursue international arbitration long-term. This discussion will consider the potential for the Australian market to provide these opportunities and what specific paths and strategies practitioners seeking to remain in Australia can pursue. Contributors will each speak for five minutes and the remainder of the discussion will be Q&A. Topic 2: Practical tips for efficiency in arbitration Efficiency in arbitration has long been a buzzword, but how is it actually achieved? The speakers comprise practitioners across the full spectrum of arbitration participants (law firm practitioner, in-house counsel, arbitrator, tribunal secretary and institution) and will each speak for 5 minutes about their top three practical tips for what practitioners in their role can do to contribute to efficiency of proceedings. The remainder of the discussion will be led by attendees speaking about their own experiences.
