Emilia Onyema has been appointed to the British Virgin Island International Arbitration Centre’s Arbitration Committee, effective 25 April 2022. Emilia is a Professor of International Commercial Law at SOAS University of London (SOAS) and an independent arbitrator. She is a qualified lawyer in Nigeria and England & Wales. Emilia is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and serves on the Advisory Committees and courts of numerous arbitration centres in Africa. She leads the biennial SOAS Arbitration in Africa survey project and annual conference series. Emilia is one of the founders of the African Promise, an initiative to increase the presence of arbitrators from the Africa, and the founder of the Arbitration Fund for African Students, which provides financial support to facilitate the participation of African students in international arbitration events.
