Dr. Ileana Smeureanu has been promoted to Counsel at Jones Day effective 1 January 2024. She concentrates her practice on international commercial and investor-State arbitration, representing clients from Europe, Africa, and the Middle East throughout the whole arbitral process. Ileana’s experience includes resolving disputes in a variety of sectors, including telecoms, oil and gas, private equity, aviation, and hotel management. Ileana is the author of the book Confidentiality in International Arbitration (Kluwer Law International, 2011) and of multiple chapters and articles dedicated to arbitration in Eastern Europe. She is a member of the New York State and Bucharest Bar Associations and is registered as an European lawyer with the Paris Bar. Ileana is a long-standing member of ArbitralWomen, where she completed two Board of Directors mandates, and of ArbCEE, an organization aimed at uniting, promoting, and serving the arbitration and ADR community of Central and Eastern Europe.
